Project Details:

-
Project Status: Ongoing M.Eng. project (Sep 2019 - Jan 2020)
-
Class: Advanced Topics in Product Design: Human Centered Design Development
-
Project Name: Designing Wearable Navigation Device for Visually Impaired
-
Project Scope:
- This is a human centered design project in association with Microsoft.
- Project aims at developing a technology that will guide the visually impaired people to navigate with better sense of surrounding.
- Our team is focusing on developing the wearable design that will satisfy the technological constraints as well as enhance the user experience. In the later stage of project, we will also fabricate the device.

SAFR: Safe and Affordable Fluoride Removal
Status: Completed M.Eng project (Sept 2019 - Dec 2019)

Objective:
200 million people live above the WHO acceptable level (1.5 mg/L) of fluoride in their drinking water, resulting in crippling dental and skeletal fluorosis. One third of fluorosis occurs in India where an affordable technology does not exists yet. SAFR aims to develop affordable, effective, and novel bauxite filtration technology and prepare a business model to scale the technology to reduce the prevalence of fluorosis for rural communities in India.

Project Work:

-
Prepared customer/user needs assessment plan. Identified target audience, type of information to collect, how to collect information and how to document the research.
-
Performed Stakeholder analysis and competitor analysis.
-
Designed and carried out the survey to collect quantitative data on user's water usage habits and willingness to buy/use a water filter.
-
Conducted 20 1:1 interviews with the stakeholders like researchers, users from India, potential investors and product design experts and gained insights on filtration technology, home-based vs centralized water filtration system and desirable product features.
-
Analyzed user research and compiled all important insights into Affinity diagram. Identified key product requirements.
-
Created user journey map.
-
Generated 50 Concept ideas, clustered them and reduced to 2 concepts using brainstorming, concept combining, voting and weighted matrix.
-
Developed prototype testing plan that included what are we testing, things needed for implementation, Qualitative/Quantitative metrics assessment, Focus group and testing steps.
-
Created a Business Model Canvas for SAFR awareness and adoption.
-
Performed rigorous impact evaluation based on theory of change.
-
I owned the additional responsibility of project management and documentation.
